The capital city is actively strengthening career counseling, job placement, and vocational training initiatives alongside unemployment allowance payouts, aiming to help displaced workers quickly re-enter the labor market amid rising benefit claims.

To advance these efforts, Hanoi provided employment for 16,800 workers in July, according to the Hanoi Center for Employment Service.

Among those placed, 2,200 individuals secured jobs through municipal budget funds entrusted to the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies totaling VND306 billion ($11.7 million).

Contractual overseas employment accounted for 292 workers, while over 1,300 candidates found positions through job fairs and counseling sessions hosted by the Center, with another 13,000 workers gaining employment via other recruitment channels.

To facilitate these connections, the Center organized 23 job exchange sessions during the month, attracting 594 participating businesses and enrollment units that offered 12,881 job vacancies and training opportunities.

As a result, 4,433 workers received career advice and labor market insights, 1,586 candidates were connected for direct interviews, and 703 applicants had their dossiers accepted on-site by recruiters.

Despite positive job creation figures, demand for social safety nets remains high across the capital. The Center received 8,725 unemployment insurance applications in July, representing a slight dip of 229 cases from June but a notable increase of 1,652 claims compared to the same period in 2025.

During the same timeframe, the Center processed and issued benefit decisions for 7,508 claims, down 1,868 cases from June and 1,385 cases year-on-year, with total financial support reaching VND264.8 billion ($10.2 million).

The year-on-year rise of over 1,600 unemployment benefit requests underscores the growing reliance on social insurance mechanisms in Hanoi.

Experts noted that unemployment insurance serves not only as a temporary income buffer during job loss, but also as a vital bridge that helps workers acquire new skills, search for opportunities, and shorten their period out of work.
