Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap district have proposed expanding four major roads that are deteriorating, often flooded, and overwhelmed by a huge traffic volumes.

The roads are Thong Nhat Street, National Road No. 6, Nguyen Van Khoi Street, and Le Duc Tho Street.

The upgrades are estimated to cost nearly VND6 trillion ($254 million).

Under the plan, Thong Nhat Street will be expanded from 4-9 meters to 25 meters and will require nearly VND3.25 trillion ($137 million). It is slated for completion in the 2025-2027 period.

National Road No. 6 will be upgraded together with the rebuilding of a bridge leading to Doi hamlet in Ward 15, at a total cost of some VND885 billion ($37.5 million).

The expansion of Nguyen Van Khoi Street will cost more than VND900 billion ($38.1 million).

The project to widen a section of Le Duc Tho Street, meanwhile, was approved in 2015 and has total investment of VND859 billion ($36.3 million). However, the district wants to increase its investment scale to meet existing conditions. It proposed that city authorities add the project to the city’s medium investment plan during the 2021-2025 period and allocate additional funding.
