Vietnam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased 0.44 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2023, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The manufacturing and processing sector rose 0.37 per cent year-on-year, electricity generation and distribution 1.79 per cent, and water supply and sewerage and waste management 5.45 per cent.

Meanwhile, the mining sector was down 1.43 per cent year-on-year.

The GSO said growth in industrial production in the period was affected by lower orders and shrinking demand amid higher production costs.

In terms of localities, the GSO said 48 localities posted year-on-year growth in the IIP in the first half, while 15 localities saw declines.
