Inland waterway transport posted a positive first half of 2023 in terms of both passenger and cargo transport, according to the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration.
Passenger transport reached 172.3 million people, a year-on-year rise of 32.9 per cent.
Cargo transport, meanwhile, was estimated at 231 million tons, a 30.8 per cent increase.
Speaking at a recent meeting held to review inland waterway transport in the first half of the year, Deputy Director of the Administration Le Minh Dao said a number of measures have been taken to increase the market share held by inland waterway transport, in order to ease road congestion and contribute to cutting transportation and logistics costs for businesses.
