The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has asked localities to urgently complete procedures to exploit mines that had been submitted to authorized agencies for approval by the end of this month or early next month, to meet demand for construction materials for the Eastern North-South Expressway project.
They are required to complete procedures for the exploitation of new mines by October.
Construction is lagging behind schedule due to a shortage of construction materials.
The volume of sand to be taken from new mines is significant and will mainly serve the treatment of soft ground. Mining procedures are slow, however, while the wet season is approaching, which will affect progress and the construction plan of contractors if mines are not exploited promptly, the MoT has said.
The project (second phase) stretches 729 km in length and is divided into 12 component projects operating independently in the public investment form, with total capital of nearly VND147 trillion ($6.5 billion).
The construction of ten of the component projects requires some 17.1 million cu m of stone, 8.95 million cu m of sand, and 45.3 million of soil, according to the MoT.
