Long An International Port in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province officially connected seven wharves on June 24 and began container loading and unloading services.

The port will be able to handle more than 500,000 TEUs a year.

This is part of the Long An International Port complex project, which covers 1,935 ha in Can Giuoc district. The complex consists of a 396-ha industrial park, a 239-ha services and industry area, an 1,145-ha urban area, and a 147-ha port.

The Dongtam Group invested over $500 million in the complex, with a warehouse on up to 1 million sq m.

The group plans to continue investing in expanding the port and upgrading equipment to reach the target of handling 1 million TEUs a year.

Container handling at the port will help enterprises in the Mekong Delta save on transportation costs and time, as their containers will no longer have to be transported via Ho Chi Minh City, thus helping boost their competitiveness.
