NA approves dismissal of State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc

With a majority of votes in favor, the National Assembly (NA) passed a resolution approving the dismissal of State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc in the 2021-2026 tenure at its third extra-ordinary meeting in Hanoi on the afternoon of January 18.

He was also dismissed from his post as an NA deputy.

Earlier, on January 17, the 13th Party Central Committee approved his proposal to resign from all positions and retire.

President Phuc is a member of the Politburo and the 13th Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the Council of National Defense and Security for the 2021-2026 term.

He took political responsibility as leader after many officials, including two Deputy Prime Ministers and three ministers, committed violations and wrongdoings causing serious consequences. Aware of his responsibility for such matters, President Phuc submitted his proposal to resign and retire.
