Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue proposed that the US soon complete procedures to recognize Vietnam as a market economy while meeting with US President Joe Biden in Hanoi on September 11.

He congratulated the President on successful talks with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on September 10 and welcomed the upgrade of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, which opens up a new chapter in bilateral ties spanning Party, legislature, government, and people-to-people exchanges.

Agreeing with the NA Chairman’s proposal, President Biden committed to making efforts to boost internal consensus in support of Vietnam-US relations and the early recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status.

At their meeting, they highlighted the importance of the legislatures of the two countries in strengthening cooperation and elevating the bilateral relationship.

Mr. Hue said Vietnam’s NA and government will jointly conduct an action plan to implement the Joint Leaders' Statement on elevating Vietnam-US ties.
