Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on September 8 met with leaders Korean conglomerates currently investing in Vietnam, as part of his official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) from September 6-9.
He emphasized Vietnam’s priority of attracting high-quality investment projects, especially those in high technology, with strong knowledge content and high added value.
In his meeting with Mr. Roh Tae Moon, Senior Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, Mr. Man expressed hope that the group would expand its investment and contribute further to Vietnam’s development in the coming years.
He noted that based on the recently-promulgated Resolution No 10 on the development of an economy with foreign-invested capital, the Vietnamese Government will submit to the NA new mechanisms and policies aimed at attracting more investors across all sectors. Vietnam welcomes foreign-invested enterprises, including Samsung, to actively participate in discussions, share experiences, and provide input to improve policies and laws.
In his meeting with Mr. Chey Tae Won, Chairman of SK Group, NA Chairman Man welcomed and encouraged the group to continue expanding investment in key sectors aligned with Vietnam’s development orientation, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, innovation, renewable energy, and emission-reduction solutions. These efforts aim toward green development, technology transfer cooperation, and training of high-quality human resources in Vietnam.
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of prioritizing high-quality investment projects, particularly in high-tech fields with strong knowledge content and high added value. Vietnam is striving to build a sustainable development model with rapid growth to achieve double-digit expansion, making energy security a top priority and AI a breakthrough driver.
The NA Chairman welcomed SK Group’s proposal to establish a large-scale AI center in Vietnam, noting that this is a priority area consistent with Vietnam’s breakthrough orientation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, as well as its new-generation foreign investment policies. He also welcomed SK’s proposal to organize the “Hanoi Forum” focusing on AI, semiconductors, energy, and high technology, and said relevant agencies would be tasked with studying and coordinating its organization.
In his meeting with Mr. Moon Hyuk Soo, CEO of LG Innotek — a subsidiary specializing in electronic components and semiconductors under LG Group, Mr. Man expressed hope that LG would continue to regard Vietnam as a key global hub for production, research, and development of core products for international markets. He encouraged the group to strengthen linkages with Vietnamese enterprises, actively support domestic companies in improving management capacity, product quality, and technical standards, enabling deeper participation in LG’s supply chain.
Later that day, the top parliamentary leader met with Mr. Shin Dong Bin, Chairman of Lotte Group. He urged Lotte to consider Vietnam a strategic investment location and a key hub in the ASEAN region, while accelerating progress and ensuring effective implementation of its large-scale projects in Vietnam.
He stressed that alongside expanding investment, Lotte should continue to focus on project quality, efficiency, and sustainability; enhance technology application; promote green development and circular economy; and uphold environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
