Visiting Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Speaker of the Republic of Korea (RoK)’s NA Cho Jeong-sik have agreeed to leverage the role of their respective legislatures in promoting high-level commitments and expanding cooperation in strategic sectors such as semiconductors, AI, infrastructure, and energy, with a goal of reaching $150 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.

Following an official welcoming ceremony at the Korean NA headquarters on September 7, Vietnam’s top parliamentary leader Man held talks with his Korean counterpart.

Affirming that the visit would strengthen cooperation between the two legislatures, speaker Cho Jeong-sik expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Government and NA would continue to refine the legal system to support Korean businesses in Vietnam, ensuring they can invest with stability and for the long term.

Speaker Cho also agreed with Mr. Man’s proposal regarding support for Vietnamese citizens and businesses residing and operating in the RoK.

Highly appraising the contributions of Korean enterprises to Vietnam’s socio-economic development, NA Chairman Man requested that the Korean NA encourage its country's businesses to expand investment in Vietnam’s priority areas. These include infrastructure, semiconductors, large-scale AI data centers, energy, and seaports.

Furthermore, he called for favorable conditions to help Vietnamese enterprises participate more deeply in Korean production supply chains and to promote market accessibility for goods from both nations.

During the talks, the two leaders exchanged in-depth views on the situation in each country and discussed directions and measures to further bilateral relations.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular high-level strategic exchanges and to implement a strategic vision for economic connectivity in the new global context to bring practical benefits to both parties.

Accordingly, they aim to raise bilateral trade turnover to $100 billion by 2026 and toward $150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner. They also agreed to continue prioritizing non-refundable ODA and concessional ODA for Vietnamese projects, while promoting cooperation in science and technology as a primary driver for the relationship.

The two leaders further agreed to expand cooperation in human resource training, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges to enhance mutual understanding and the bond between the people of the two countries.
