The number of users of Mobile Money, Vietnam’s direct carrier billing service, had reached over 3.2 million as of January 31, a five-fold increase compared to end-January 2022, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC).

Of the total, the number of users in rural, mountainous, and remote areas accounted for 70 per cent.

Service providers accepting payments through Mobile Money settled more than 20 million transactions for a total of over VND1.3 trillion ($54 million).

The Mobile Money service was launched on a trial basis in November. It is seen as being among the key solutions for Vietnam to push non-cash payments and promote e-commerce and online public services towards comprehensively transforming into a digital society.
