Underlining defense and security cooperation as a vital pillar in Vietnam’s bilateral relations with Laos and Cambodia respectively, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has urged practical collaboration across border infrastructure connectivity, human resource development, and defense industry capabilities.
The Government leader made the remarks at the receptions on October 13 for Deputy Prime Ministers and Ministers of National Defense of Laos and Cambodia, who are in Vietnam for the annual meeting of the Vietnamese, Cambodian and Lao defence ministers.
Receiving General Khamliang Outhakaysone, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, PM Hung called on both sides to coordinate closely in enhancing defense readiness, advancing defense industry partnerships, and expanding personnel training.
He also emphasized intensifying political work to build strong armed forces that serve as dependable, loyal pillars for their respective Parties, States, and peoples.
Describing defense cooperation as a key pillar that bolsters Laos's defense capacity, self-reliance, and autonomy, General Khamliang confirmed that the Lao side will coordinate closely with Vietnam's Ministry of National Defense. This alignment aims to implement high-level bilateral accords effectively, reinforcing the special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic bond between Laos and Vietnam.
In a meeting with General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, PM Hung commended the two defense ministries for proactively executing high-level common perceptions and agreements, maintaining defense and security as a bedrock of bilateral ties.
Reaffirming the Vietnamese government's consistent support for closer, substantive, and effective defense ties, he urged both sides to deepen strategic exchanges and prioritize personnel development, particularly specialized technical skills and language training.
The Prime Minister also urged accelerating land border demarcation, marker planting, and border management; upgrading border infrastructure and checkpoint facilities; and creating favorable conditions for bilateral businesses, including defense enterprises, to expand cooperation.
In addition, he called for continued close coordination in searching for, collecting, and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who fell during wars in Cambodia.
General Tea Seiha thanked Vietnam for its support in training and medical treatment in recent years. Cambodia will work closely with Vietnam to carry out cooperation agreements and plans between the defence ministries, particularly those concerning policy consultations, logistics cooperation, and exchanges between young officers, he said.
Both sides agreed to coordinate preparations for the "Friendship Year 2027," marking the 60th anniversary of Vietnam–Cambodia diplomatic relations.
