PM: Vietnam commits to taking action in green and energy transitions

Vietnam commits to taking strong action towards green transition and energy transition to promote equity, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at UN headquarters in New York on September 21 (local time).

He noted that Vietnam is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change, suffering natural disasters, drought, floods, landslides, and saltwater intrusion, especially in the Mekong Delta region.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested that developing countries be prioritized in receiving support in capital, technology, training, and administration.

Vietnam has actively cooperated with UN organizations to implement cooperative activities, particularly in ensuring international security, participating in UN peacekeeping missions in global hotspots, transforming to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and promoting just energy transition and social equity, the Prime Minister added.

Secretary-General Guterres, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation for Vietnam’s cooperation and support in all prioritized activities of the UN, especially peacekeeping, international security, climate change, sustainable development, and human rights protection, among others.

He shared Vietnam’s view on upholding multilateralism, bolstering sustainable growth, and reforming the international financial architecture to support developing countries.
