The Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee in Vietnam’s north has approved a project expanding the Cao Son coal mine, to help boost local socio-economic development and ensure national energy security.
The total land area for the project is estimated at over 9.2 million sq m and the coal mining area 6.07 sq km.
The mine has a total mineable reserve of nearly 66 million tons, with an estimated 4.5 million tons to be exploited each year.
This expansion is also expected to help stabilize the production of the Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company and create more jobs.
Earlier, the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited proposed adding the project to the master plan on national energy in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.
