Vietnam’s railway industry led the transport sector in terms of passenger transport during the first half of the year, with 3.1 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 75.7 per cent, according to Vietnam Railways.
Freight transport by railway, meanwhile, was down 26.4 per cent, to 2.2 million tons. The fall was due to declining export orders and competition from water transport.
Rail transport suffered severe losses during Covid-19 but began to recover in 2022, when it earned revenue of nearly VND5.37 trillion ($226 million).
Vietnam Railways anticipates turnover of over VND6.5 trillion ($274 million) this year.
