SBV issues new guidance on overseas money transfers

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has issued a circular guiding money transfers to and from Vietnam and payment and transfer of other transactions.

The purchase, transfer, and carrying of foreign currencies can be conducted by residents being Vietnamese citizens or legal representatives of Vietnamese citizens or relatives of Vietnamese citizens who are studying or receiving medical treatment abroad under the guidance of licensed banks in accordance with legal provisions.

Sources of foreign currencies transferred or carried abroad include foreign currencies owned by individuals and foreign currencies of licensed banks.

The new Circular will take effect on February 15, 2023.
