Seafood exports are seeing positive signs of recovery, with export revenue in May reaching over $808 million, the highest so far this year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Exports to key markets such as the US, the EU, China, Japan, and South Korea in May also gained the highest value this year.
Many seafood businesses have forecast that markets will recover over the remaining months of the year but at a slow pace, particularly in Japan and South Korea, where Vietnamese products don’t have to face competition from other countries.
The slow recovery is also behind other difficulties, such as high input costs and low selling prices, according to VASEP.
