Cross-border and domestic social media platforms will be required to authenticate users' accounts via mobile phone subscribers in Vietnam, the Government News quoted Decree No. 147/2024/ND-CP as reporting.
Under Decree No. 147/2024/ND-CP on managing, providing and using internet services, which was issued by the Government on November 9, and will take effect on December 25, 2024, the authentication process will have to be done within 90 days from the effective date of the decree.
In case a user does not have a mobile phone number in Vietnam, personal identification number will be used to authenticate his/her account.
If a user livestreams for commercial purposes, his/her account must be authenticated via personal identification number.
Only authenticated accounts will be allowed to post and share information on social media platforms.
For children aged below 16 using social media platforms, their parents or supervisors will use their personal information to register for accounts and have to supervise and manage the contents posted or shared by children.
