More than 30 European businesses and individuals donated some $150,000 during the first ten days of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham Vietnam)’s fundraising campaign to help the country fight Covid-19. EuroCham hopes to raise $500,000 to make a real difference in the fight against the pandemic.

Hanoi decided on August 30 to support nearly 86,000 freelance workers with funds totaling VND128 billion ($5.6 million). It has already supported more than 65,700 employees with a total of VND98 billion ($4.3 million).

Two more batches of AstraZeneca vaccine have been shipped to Ho Chi Minh City, with a total of 1,442,300 doses. These are the 10th and 11th deliveries and the largest quantity delivered to date under a sales contract for 30 million doses signed between the Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) and AstraZeneca. The vaccine currently accounts for 64 per cent of the country’s supply.

As of August 26, the social insurance agency had confirmed a list of more than 490,000 employees at 23,347 employers in 62 out of Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces that will enjoy support policies.

Hanoi had provided support of more than VND716 billion ($31.6 million) to 2.3 million people facing difficulties from Covid-19 as of August 26. Nine out of 12 groups subject to the government’s social welfare package received support. The remaining three groups did not submit paperwork. Hanoi has proposed adding to the number of such groups.

37,000 business households temporarily suspending operations and 1.2 million freelance workers had received support totaling nearly VND2.18 trillion ($97 million) as of August 26. More than VND8 trillion ($352.4 million) has been provided to over 13.5 million people and 375,800 employers.
