SOEs invest $6.6bln overseas

The total capital invested overseas by 30 State-owned enterprises (SOEs) was estimated at $6.6 billion as of the end of 2022, equal to 55 per cent of their registered capital, figures from the Ministry of Finance show.

Seventy-two projects from 16 enterprises saw a return on investment of $4 billion, equivalent to 61.7 per cent of the capital invested.

Vietnam has 827 SOEs, of which the State holds at least 50 per cent of total capital in 676. In the first half of 2023, their total revenue stood at over VND689 trillion ($28.7 billion), representing 50 per cent of the annual target.

Vietnam’s overseas investment approximated $416.8 million during the first nine months of 2023, up 4.6 per cent year-on-year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) at the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
