Pangasius exports up sharply

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has said that Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached over $1.8 billion in the first eight months of 2022, up 81 per cent year-on-year. Exports to the US accounted for 23 per cent, worth more than $421 million, up 87 per cent year-on-year. The average price of frozen pangasius fillets exported to the US in August was a record $5 per kilo.

Quang Ninh’s tourism revenue up 249% in 8M

Dubbed “miniature Vietnam” due to its terrain of mountains, islands, plains, midlands, and borders, and with 632 historical, cultural, and scenic sites, including Ha Long Bay, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage, northern Quang Ninh province is becoming a major tourist center in the country. In the first eight months of this year, the province welcomed 8.2 million visitors, with total revenue reaching nearly VND18 trillion ($758 million), up 249 per cent year-on-year.

While the number of livestock farmers has fallen sharply due to losses over recent years, FDI enterprises are still expanding their livestock activities in Vietnam and now dominate in pork and chicken. Figures from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that of the more than 300 FDI projects in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector in the first eight months of this year, 81 were in livestock and had significant capital.

Thanh Hoa posts record budget revenue

A report presented at the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee’s regular September meeting noted record State budget revenue in the first nine months of the year, exceeding the estimate and rising sharply year-on-year. The north-central province’s total State budget revenue in the period was some VND39.325 trillion ($1.65 billion), 133 per cent of the estimate, up 56 per cent, and a new record.

Vietnam up 14 places globally in AI readiness index

Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day 2022 (AI4VN) took place on September 23 with the theme “AI revitalizing the economy, shaping the future”. Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said the “Government’s Artificial Intelligence Readiness Index” published by Oxford Insights in conjunction with the Center for National Development Research Canada for 2021, showed that Vietnam ranked 62nd out of 160 countries, up 14 places compared to 2020.

Hanoi welcoming many more tourists

Figures from the Hanoi Department of Tourism put tourist numbers to the capital at an estimated 13.9 million in the first nine months of the year, an increase of more than four-fold year-on-year. Total revenue is estimated at nearly VND39.7 trillion ($1.67 billion), up 4.7-fold year-on-year. International tourists totaled 766,400 and domestic tourists 13.1 million.

Credit in economy up 10.47% this year

At a press conference announcing results in the banking industry in the third quarter of 2022, Ms. Ha Thu Giang, Deputy Director of the Credit Department for Economic Sectors at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), said that as of September 16, credit in the economy had increased 10.47 per cent compared to the end of 2021 and 17.19 per cent year-on-year.
