Vietnam & South Korea strengthening economic cooperation

The 19th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technological Cooperation on October 28 was co-chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss solutions to boosting bilateral economic cooperation. As of September, South Korea had 9,438 investment projects in Vietnam with total registered capital of $80.5 billion, ranking it first among countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Bilateral turnover reached $78 billion in 2021, up 18.2 per cent compared to 2020. South Korea is Vietnam’s third-largest export market and second-largest import source.

The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Enterprise Development Agency (AED) at the Ministry of Planning and Investment signed a cooperation agreement on September 14 in Hanoi on promoting digital transformation at Vietnamese businesses. Under the agreement, VNPT will become the leading digital service provider in Vietnam by 2025 and a digital hub of Asia by 2030.

Shinhan Finance & FPT Retail sign cooperative agreement

The Shinhan Vietnam Finance Company Limited (Shinhan Finance) and FPT Digital Retail Joint Stock Company (FPT Retail) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on August 30 to diversify financial solutions in the retail sector. A member of Shinhan Card in South Korea, Shinhan Finance is a fully foreign-owned consumer finance company, while FPT Retail is a subsidiary of the FPT Corporation.

On August 30, 2022, in Ho Chi Minh City, HDBank and DEG co-organized a “German Desk Networking Event”, looking back on the one-year journey of German Desk cooperation.
