Addressing the roundtable, General Secretary and President To Lam said the two economies could aim for two-way trade of $14-15 billion by 2030 in a balanced, sustainable manner with higher added value.

Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its relations with Canada, and highly valued the important progress in bilateral relations after nearly a decade of implementing the Comprehensive Partnership framework, said General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam.

During a roundtable with leaders of major US firms in New York on September 23 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam highly valued the views and proposals put forward by leaders of US corporations in science and technology, advanced manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, finance and investment.

Appreciating Vietnam’s active and pioneering engagement in security, political affairs, sustainable development and a just energy transition, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his hope that Vietnam will continue to play a strong role in the world’s transformation, contribute to efforts to address climate change under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), and promote emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).

This is the second time Party General Secretary and President To Lam participates in a UNGA session in his capacity as the leader of the Party and State, following the first time in 2024.

While receiving Russian Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev in Moscow on September 8, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam consistently regard Russia as an important and reliable partner and a top priority in Vietnam’s foreign policy and development strategy.

The agreement was reached by General Secretary and President To Lam and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during their summit meeting in Colombo on May 8.
