PM approves construction of expressway through Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces

The Prime Minister has signed Decision No. 769/QD-TTg approving the construction of the Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway, first phase, with a length of 27.43 km through the Mekong Delta’s Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces and investment of nearly VND5.9 trillion ($253 million) from the State budget. Once completed in 2027, the expressway will be part of a horizontal axis and expressway and highway network in the Delta.

PM calls for study of HCMC - Can Tho - Ca Mau railway line

As the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city has become a regional city and an important focal point for intra-regional and international transportation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested the study of a railway line linking Ho Chi Minh City with the city and also southernmost Ca Mau province. He also called for research and investment in a number of large ports and the development of industrial parks, including accelerating the development of the VSIP Can Tho Industrial Park.

On May 11, during his working visit to the US, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Mr. Axel Van Trotsenburg, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank, and leaders of major US enterprises and corporations. At the meeting, he expressed his appreciation to Boeing leaders over their cooperation and gave his support to its aircraft being used in Vietnam and its plans to expand facilities in the country, including a warranty and maintenance facility.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national online conference on planning work on August 19, during which he pointed out the limitations, difficulties, and obstacles in the task. Proposals and solutions to resolve issues and ensure the progress and quality of planning in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Planning were raised by delegates. The Prime Minister also directed that planning be one step ahead, and not local or fragmented.

Waterway transport to receive boost

A draft decision from the Prime Minister on encouraging the development of domestic waterway transport introduces many new mechanisms and policies, most notably a regulation on not charging seaport infrastructure fees, which will remove difficulties facing enterprises. The draft also proposes giving priority to preferential international loans for investment in waterway infrastructure, connecting waterways with major seaports.

PM pushes public investment disbursement

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 1082/CD-TTg on August 16 on speeding up the implementation and disbursement of the 2021 public investment capital plan. Disbursement reached just 36.71 per cent of the plan in the first seven months of the year, with many agencies not yet disbursing anything and the disbursement of ODA and concessional loans from foreign donors being particularly low, at 7.52 per cent.

Hoa Binh to link with national transport network

The Prime Minister has approved the investment policy for a project connecting traffic and irrigation in northern Hoa Binh province with the national transport infrastructure network. Total investment is VND2.6 trillion ($112.6 million), from South Korean ODA loans and reciprocal capital. Implementation is expected to take six years.
