Data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) shows that pangasius exports brought in $2 billion in the first nine months of 2022. With such results and a slight rise expected over the next few months, it is forecast that annual export turnover may hit a record $2.5-2.6 billion, or one and a half times higher than last year.

The impact of high input material prices combined with exchange rate fluctuations around the world presented a host of difficulties for seafood exporters in the first half of August, but the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has forecast that seafood exports for 2022 as a whole will surpass the “milestone” of $10 billion for the first time and increase 12-15 per cent compared to 2021.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said the seafood industry reached sales and growth milestones in the first half of 2022. The industry earned $5.7 billion, up nearly 40 per cent year-on-year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), seafood exports in the second quarter of 2022 posted turnover of over $3.2 billion, an increase of nearly 36 per cent year-on-year. Seafood exports in the first half of the year reached nearly $5.8 billion, up 40 per cent. While the US still holds the top position in the consumption of Vietnamese seafood, exports to China also rose significantly, by 91 per cent.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), while seafood exports in May did not grow as much as in April they still rose more than 27 per cent year-on-year. Exports in the first five months of the year stood at over $4.6 billion, up 42 per cent year-on-year. The seafood sector has set a target of $9 billion in exports this year.
