A central government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung conducted a field inspection of the Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Expressway project's progress within Dak Lak Province, central Vietnam, on March 19.
After receiving reports from project owners, the Deputy PM directed all units to capitalize on favorable dry season conditions to accelerate construction across all component projects.
He placed particular emphasis on Component Project 2, urging contractors to overcome challenging terrain and weather conditions to ensure a technical opening before September 2, 2026, with the entire route slated for full completion within the same year.
Deputy PM Dung also directed Dak Lak authorities to focus on resolving remaining bottlenecks to ensure the entire route is operational as scheduled. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of integrating supplementary infrastructure, such as rest stops and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), to enhance operational efficiency and drive socio-economic development for the province and the wider region.
He also tasked the local government with researching and proposing investment plans for the Buon Ma Thuot – Tuy Hoa Expressway. This project aims to strengthen the connectivity between the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast, expanding the region's development potential.
In response, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee proposed a central government-backed project to connect the endpoint of the Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Expressway with the province's East-West axis. This link is intended to maximize the expressway's utility and meet local development demands. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his support for the proposal and assigned relevant ministries to coordinate with the province to finalize the plan for official consideration.
The Khanh Hoa – Buon Ma Thuot Expressway spans over 117 km with a total investment of nearly VND22 trillion (over $834 million), divided into three component projects. To date, Component Project 3 achieved a technical opening on December 19, 2025, with construction value exceeding 94%. Meanwhile, Component Project 2 has reached approximately 64% of its total construction volume.
