The Ministry of Transport has approved investment in a project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels along National Highway No. 1.

They include upgrades and expansions to Xuong Giang, Gianh, and Quan Hau Bridges and Deo Ngang Tunnel.

Total investment is estimated at VND2 trillion ($83 million), which will be sourced from the State budget.

Xuong Giang Bridge, crossing the Thong River in northern Bac Giang province, will be expanded to a total roadbed width of 33 meters.

Gianh Bridge, crossing the Giang River in central Quang Binh province, will be upgraded to a total length of 2.1 km. The access road leading to the bridge will be expanded to four lanes with a roadbed width of 20.5 meters, allowing a speed limit of 80 kph.

Quan Hau Bridge, crossing the Nhat Le River in central Quang Binh province, will be upgraded to a total length of over 1.8 km.

Deo Ngang Tunnel, meanwhile, links north-central Ha Tinh and central Quang Binh provinces and will be upgraded to a total length of nearly 3 km. The access road leading to the tunnel will be expanded to four lanes with a roadbed width of 20.5 meters, allowing a speed limit of 80 kph.
