Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son proposed Vietnam and Chile to continue promoting trade and investment cooperation to soon raise the two-way trade turnover to $3 billion during a reception for Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto Van Klaveren in Hanoi on August 27, the Government News has reported.

The two-way trade has exceeded $2 billion and Chile continues to be Vietnam’s 4th largest trading partner in Latin America, and Vietnam remains Chile's biggest trading partner in ASEAN.

Mr. Son also suggested the two countries to facilitate market access for goods of each other's strengths such as electronics and agriculture-forestry-fishery products and boost business connections.

For his part, Mr. Klaveren proposed Vietnam consider facilitating procedures for licensing Chilean agricultural products to be imported into the Southeast Asian nation, and promote the exchange of business delegations between the two countries.

The two sides discussed and agreed on several measures to further deepen the relationship between the two countries in the coming time, through coordinating to arrange and prepare for high-level visits, effectively promoting the mechanisms of political consultation and the Vietnam-Chile free trade council, working together to remove obstacles in bilateral relations and facilitating market access for products of both sides.
