Vietnam attaches great importance to developing its semiconductor industry and hopes to work closely with associations and businesses to share information and experience in the field, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said during a recent meeting with the President and CEO of the US’s Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), Mr. John Neuffer, on the sidelines of the WTO’s 13th Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi.
With the goal of deepening its involvement in the global semiconductor supply chain, Vietnam hopes for the SIA’s support in market links, technology, financial resources, and early cooperation projects with US companies, in considering appropriate mechanisms and policies to develop its semiconductor industry, he said.
Vietnam has some 6,000 engineers working in the field and the country targets training 50,000 in total by 2030, with priority given to semiconductor chip designers.
At a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 7, 2023, Mr. Neuffer affirmed that Vietnam is an attractive destination for US semiconductor businesses.
