Vietnam boasts over 11,000 OCOP products

Vũ Khuê -

Many ‘One commune, One product’ (OCOP) products are now being exported.

Vietnam now has over 11,000 “One commune, One product” (OCOP) products in its 63 cities and provinces, including 68.9 per cent recognized as three-star products and nearly 30 per cent as four-star products, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Forty-two products have the potential to gain five-star recognition.

Speaking at a workshop on December 26 to discuss measures to broaden consumption channels for OCOP products, Director of MARD’s Center for Agricultural Trade Promotion Nguyen Minh Tien said products have increased rapidly in terms of both quantity and quality.

All OCOP products meet food safety and hygiene standards such as ISO, HACCP, and GAP, and many meet global standards.

OCOP products are widely consumed nationwide and also exported.

Apart from traditional distribution channels, MARD has also promoted the trade of OCOP products via e-commerce platforms.

The OCOP program, approved under Prime Ministerial Decision No. 490/QD-TTg on May 7, 2018, encompasses three primary goals: developing forms of organized production and business, changing the economic structure to improve incomes, and advancing agriculture and production in rural areas.
