Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed quickly increasing two-way trade between Vietnam and Malaysia to $18 billion each year when receiving Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Zambry Abdul Kadir, in Hanoi on July 19, the Government News reported.

Trade between the two reached $14.8 billion last year, for year-on-year growth of 17.9 per cent.

Malaysia is also among the top 10 largest investors in Vietnam, with 718 valid projects and capital of $13 billion.

It is now Vietnam’s second-largest trade partner in ASEAN and ninth-largest in the world.

Prime Minister Chinh emphasized that Vietnam will create favorable conditions for Malaysian companies to expand their operations in the country.

He proposed the two sides boost cooperation in maritime, education and training, science and technology, labor, tourism, the digital economy, the circular economy, and green energy.
