During an interview to Economy with Bloomberg on October 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who was in Saudi Arabia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and to pay an official visit to the country, said the results of cooperation between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia are encouraging but have yet to live up to potential, and both sides still have much room for cooperation and also boast many complementary advantages, especially in their priority areas, the Government News has reported.
He affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to further strengthen friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Saudi Arabia, and support the latter’s Vision 2030 announced by Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in May 2016 with a view to diversifying the economy, reducing the dependence on oil, and opening up Saudi Arabia in cultural and social aspects.
The Vietnamese leader highly regards the Vision 2030 and expressed his belief that Saudi Arabia will gradually realize its goals to establish itself as a leading trade, financial, aviation, and tourism hub in the Middle East and the world.
Prime Minister Chinh said the two countries’ development strategies, visions, and orientations to 2030 share many similarities, especially targeted breakthroughs in socio-economic development, development based on science, technology and innovation, and the priority given to digital transformation, green transition, the circular economy, and climate change response.
He suggested that both countries push ahead with implementing cooperative policies, programs, and projects after his visit.
