Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Dr. Vu Tien Loc has made a number of proposals to the government on helping businesses resume production and business safely and effectively.

The Swiss Government will provide support of CHF70 million ($80 million) to Vietnam in the 2021-2024 period to improve the country’s business environment and the competitiveness of its private sector.

Switzerland has affirmed it will continue to provide ODA to Vietnam in the 2021-2024 period in the fields of human resource training, urban development, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development. The country will also provide 500,000 Covid test kits, 300,000 face masks, 30 ventilators, and other medical equipment and supplies. The two countries will focus on cooperation in sustainable development, modern governance, human resources training, innovation, and digital transformation.

Vietnam still boasts potential for future development despite Covid-19, thanks to increased export activities, continued FDI attraction, and steady economic growth. It also gives foreign investors and experts priority to enter the country.

The government has decided to add VND1 trillion ($43.81 million) to the National Target Program on building new rural areas in 2021. More than 62 per cent of communes around the country have now met the new rural standards, and all communes in 12 cities and provinces have met the standards.

At the “Impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy and options for Vietnam” webinar, organized recently by the International Society of Vietnam Economists (ISVE), analysts said that the country must choose between economic damage now or in the future.
