Nearly 75% of Vietnamese businesses have begun testing or deploying artificial intelligence (AI) at various levels, while more than 81% say AI has helped save time and improve productivity, according to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Vietnam Survey 2026.

The report, released by the Vietnam CIO community and EY Vietnam at the CIO Summit 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City on October 1, highlights changing technology investment priorities and the growing adoption of AI among businesses.

Despite widespread experimentation and deployment, only 6.3% of companies said they had demonstrated clear financial value from their overall AI portfolio, measured through tangible impacts on revenue, costs, profits or other business indicators.

Applied AI remains the top technology priority, selected by 81.1% of businesses surveyed. Meanwhile, the proportion of CIOs prioritising Agentic AI is expected to double from 30% in 2026 to 60.4% in 2027.

About 35% of businesses have already moved AI agents into production, although their level of autonomy remains relatively tightly controlled. Only 7.2% allow AI systems to make decisions independently within predefined policy frameworks.

Demand for employees with Generative AI and Agentic AI skills is also expected to rise significantly, from 53.1% currently to 69.4% in 2027.

The survey also indicates a shift in technology investment priorities from operational optimisation towards business growth. Some 78.4% of CIOs identified increasing revenue and creating new business models as their top technology priorities, underscoring the growing role of AI and digital technologies in corporate growth strategies.
