Vietnamese businesses' products hold a distinct advantage on e-commerce platforms, as highlighted at the specialized export conference "Unlocking Breakthrough Export Potential: Support Solutions for Businesses from Alibaba.com in 2025," organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment & Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) on February 28, according to a report from Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

The Radio quoted Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Uyen, Marketing Director of Alibaba.com Vietnam, as saying that Vietnamese products are currently in high demand on the platform.

These sought-after items include beauty products, restaurant supplies, furniture, fashion clothing, handbags, suitcases, food and beverages, and large-sized packaging. These categories enjoy high customer traffic and a high conversion rate into orders.

Vietnamese businesses also benefit from irreplaceable local raw materials and natural origins. "There is a price advantage—not in terms of cheap prices or labor, but through tariff preferences from free trade agreements (FTAs). Industries with high viewership and orders include garments, footwear, coffee, and rice. We also have an advantage in the origin of goods," said Ms. Uyen.

2024  marked a booming year for the e-commerce industry worldwide and in Southeast Asia. Vietnam continues to maintain a growth rate of 18-25% year-on-year, ranking among the top 10 countries with the highest e-commerce growth rates globally. On Alibaba alone, Vietnamese businesses have 5,900 product categories, with thousands of businesses selling on the platform, according to Ms. Uyen

Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of ITPC, noted that many Vietnamese products, including cosmetics, consumer goods, kitchenware, electrical appliances, electronics, clothing, footwear, and accessories, are currently being sold on Alibaba. However, the food industry still faces limitations due to small-scale production and not meeting the strict criteria of export markets.

To support businesses in promoting exports through e-commerce platforms, Ms. Quyen stated, "We connect with reputable e-commerce platforms worldwide to provide training for businesses. ITPC invites experts to deliver training on specific topics, helping businesses seize opportunities and connect with platforms for in-depth training and support."
