Vietnam’s total import value of completely built-up (CBU) cars and automotive parts reached $6.68 billion in the first half of 2026, up 37.3% year-on-year, with CBU vehicles standing at 121,189 units (up 18% year-on-year) and value reaching $2.87 billion (up 28.9%), and value of automotive parts and components reaching $3.81 billion (up 44.4%),  according to preliminary data from the Customs Department.

In June alone, 25,609 CBU vehicles worth $579.16 million were cleared for import, representing increases of 7.9% in volume and 5.8% in value from May. The rise came as dealers and distributors increased inventories ahead of stronger demand in the second half of the year. Meanwhile, imported automotive parts and components valued at $663 million in June, down 2.1% from May.

Indonesia remained the largest source of imported vehicles, supplying 11,608 units, up 2.7% from May. Thailand ranked second with 7,186 units, an increase of 21.9%, followed by China with 5,699 units, up 4.7%.
