Vietnam exported nearly 5.9 million tons of rice worth more than $3 billion this year, as of August 15, the Vietnam News Agency quoted figure from the Vietnam Food Association (VThe export volume reached 5.87 million tons, up 2.88% from the same period in 2024. However, export value fell 16% year-on-year, reflecting lower global prices.
Last week, rice export prices climbed to their highest levels in eight months amid tightening supplies. Fragrant 5% broken rice was offered at $455–460 per ton on August 28, the highest since early January.
By August 25, Mekong Delta provinces had cultivated over 1.82 million hectares of summer–autumn rice, harvesting 1.08 million hectares with an estimated output of 6.53 million tons. Autumn–winter planting had covered 581,000 hectares, or 83% of the target, while seasonal rice accounted for 145,000 hectares, equivalent to 43% of the plan.
