The Vietnam Chemical Group (Vinachem), in coordination with its partner entities, officially held a ceremony on October 12 in Nongbok District, Khammouane Province, Laos, to restart its rock salt mining and processing project, according to a report by the Government's online newspaper (chinhphu.vn)

The newspaper quoted the Vietnam Trade Office in Laos as reporting that the Khammouane potash rock salt venture entails an estimated total investment capital of approximately $492 million.

It is engineered with a designed annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tons of potassium chloride (muriate of potash) and is projected to generate jobs for more than 600 skilled personnel. Under the updated project schedule, Vinachem targets the complete completion of factory construction by December 2028.

Once fully operational, the project will optimize Laos's natural potash reserves, generate fiscal revenues, train technical human resources, and help Vietnam secure a strategic domestic supply of key raw materials for national fertilizer manufacturing.

Vinachem and its partners are studying the development of the site into an integrated industrial complex focusing on advanced downstream processing, value addition, and socioeconomic development for midland border regions.
