Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan has been named Acting State President of Vietnam following the dismissal of State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the National Assembly Standing Committee announced on January 18.

The appointment was made on the basis of the Constitution, the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly, and the Conclusion of the Politburo on assignment of a member of the Party Central Committee to hold the position of Acting State President of Vietnam.

Xuan will hold the position until the National Assembly elects a new State President.
