Experts discussed measures to preserve and restore water resources for the Mekong Delta region at a workshop held on August 30 in Hanoi with a focus on seeking technology solutions and international capital resources.

The workshop was co-hosted by the Vietnam Economic Times/VnEconomy, Invest Global and the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.

The Mekong Delta, a key agricultural region of Vietnam, plays not only a crucial role in providing food and agriculture for the entire country but also serves as the leading agricultural export hub.

However, this area is facing serious challenges related to water resources due to saltwater intrusion, scarcity of fresh water, land subsidence, coastal erosion, and water pollution. This situation not only affects agricultural production but also threatens the livelihoods of millions of people living in the area.

Therefore, in order to address these challenges, there should be sustainable solutions, with advanced technologies applied, and international cooperation strengthened.

The workshop attracted the participation of many domestic and international experts and businesses, including Mr. Sam Nguyen, Chairman of Aquawork Group and Mr. Shin Yongil, CEO of Aquawork. Aquawork is a leading Korean conglomerate - a company that owns solutions for reusing industrial wastewater and new-generation core water treatment technology. Aquawork also holds numerous patents and certifications from reputable organizations in South Korea and the world, affirming its leading position in the field of water treatment technology.

Aquawork is seeking opportunities for collaboration to develop advanced technologies aimed at addressing challenges in seawater treatment, providing clean water, and wastewater management in the Mekong Delta region.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Chu Van Lam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Economic Association and Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Economic Times/ VnEconomy, said the workshop will be a valuable opportunity for jointly reviewing the overall situation regarding the current state and urgent issues as well as major challenges faced by the Mekong Delta region in terms of water resources.

"We believe that with technological support, financial assistance, and management experience from international partners, the Mekong Delta will be able to overcome current challenges, achieve sustainable development, and continue to contribute to Vietnam's overall prosperity," Dr. Lam said.

At the workshop, experts proposed relevant authorities to allow Aquawork Corporation to conduct research, assessment, and exploration of investment opportunities in Vietnam, with expectation to help ensure that solutions are implemented effectively and sustainably, thus restoring and preserving the water resources for the Mekong Delta region.
