One hundred sustainable businesses in various fields in Vietnam were honored at a ceremony on December 1 co-organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Among the top 10 businesses in trade - services and production, 40 per cent, 25 per cent, and 35 per cent are State-owned enterprises, private Vietnamese enterprises, and foreign-invested enterprises, respectively.
The ceremony also honored enterprises that have posted excellent performance in three categories: promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality in the workplace; advancing responsible business and respecting children’s rights in business operations; and adopting the circular economy model to help with climate change response.
Selection was based on the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI). Of the 130 CSI indicators in the 2022 version, 68 per cent are related to legal compliance requirements while 32 per cent are for sustainable business initiatives.
Politburo member and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, said sustainability is a strategic orientation and an indispensable option for the development of the Vietnamese business community.
At the ceremony, he called for Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs to uphold their proactivity, creativity, and flexibility and to boost cooperation to create a collective strength, and to promote responsible business to spur economic growth in harmony with environmental and social benefits.
