Index rises 1% year-on-year in the first eleven months.

Vietnam’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased 1 per cent year-on-year in the first eleven months of 2023, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The manufacturing and processing sector rose 1.1 per cent, electricity generation and distribution 3.2 per cent, and water supply and sewerage and waste management 4.9 per cent. The mining sector, meanwhile, was down 2.8 per cent year-on-year.

In the eleven-month period, certain key industrial sectors reported an IIP higher than in the same period last year, including rubber and plastic products, by 11.8 per cent, metal ore mining 11.1 per cent, tobacco 10.5 per cent, chemicals and chemical products 8.6 per cent, and food production and processing 6.2 per cent.

In terms of localities, the GSO said 50 cities and provinces posted year-on-year growth in their IIP in the period, while 13 saw declines.

Cities and provinces seeing their manufacturing and processing industry increase sharply in the period were Dak Lak, by 33.6 per cent, Bac Giang 20.5 per cent, Phu Tho 17.6 per cent, Nam Dinh 15.5 per cent, and Hai Phong 13.5 per cent.
