Vietnam exported 276,000 tons of cashew nuts in the first half of the year, earning $1.62 billion, figures from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show.
The result represents year-on-year increases of 10.5 per cent in volume and 7.7 per cent in value.
However, the export price fell 5 per cent compared to the same period last year, standing at $5,805 per ton.
Vietnam remains the world’s leading cashew nut exporter, accounting for over 75 per cent of global export volumes.
However, the industry is facing heated competition from Cambodia and West African and East African countries, which are expanding their cultivation of cashew nuts as well as their cashew nut processing and exports, according to the Vietnam Cashew Association.
Enterprises exported 519,782 tons of cashew nuts last year, worth $3.08 billion.
The sector targets export revenue of $3.1 billion this year.
