Vietnam expects to export 2 million doses of swine fever vaccine to Indonesia and the Philippines by October.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Animal Health Department Phan Quang Minh announced the news during a monthly press briefing on August 1.

“Over the past year, more than 650,000 vaccine shots were administered to pigs in farms around Vietnam,” Mr. Minh said. “The results show that more than 95 per cent of pigs receiving the shot had a high antibody response.”

Vietnam has recorded 208 outbreaks of Africa swine fever this year, and nearly 8,500 infected pigs were culled, down 78 per cent and 82 per cent compared to the same period of 2022.

“This is thanks to Vietnam’s proactiveness in the research and production of the swine fever vaccine,” he said.

A delegation of specialists from the US Department of Agriculture conducted an independent assessment, he added, and affirmed the results. The Philippines also bought 300 doses and spoke highly of its effectiveness, which it said reached nearly 100 per cent.
