The North Hanoi Smart City Development Investment JSC. (NHSC) - a joint venture between BRG Group (Vietnam) and Sumitomo Corporation (Japan), officially broke ground on the North Hanoi Smart City project in the capital city's Vinh Thanh Commune on August 19.
This is one of 250 key projects launched or inaugurated sibultaneously nationwide on August 19 in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
Covering nearly 272 hectares with a total planned investment of $4.2 billion, the North Hanoi Smart City is expected to become a new symbol of Hanoi in its journey toward modern and sustainable urban development.
The project will be built around six pillars of smart solutions: smart energy, smart governance, smart living, smart health & learning, smart mobility, and smart economy. These pillars aim not only to establish an advanced technical infrastructure but also to significantly improve the quality of life for residents.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, emphasized that the project carries strategic significance not only in terms of urban planning and architecture but also as a driver for growth in the northern Red River region.
The smart city will form a hub of modern finance, commerce, and services, generating tens of thousands of jobs, attracting high-tech human resources and international experts, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of both Hanoi and the nation.
To ensure smooth implementation, Mr. Quyen called on Hanoi’s departments, agencies, and Vinh Thanh Commune authorities to work closely together in addressing challenges that may arise during the project’s execution, ensuring compliance with urban planning, investment, construction, land use, and environmental regulations.
According to Mr. Hirokazu Higashino, General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation for Asia & Oceania, the North Hanoi Smart City project stands as a symbol of friendship and the close partnership between Vietnam and Japan. He stressed that Sumitomo will advance the comprehensive development of the smart city model, focusing on energy-efficient urban planning, renewable energy use, and energy-saving technologies, thereby contributing to carbon neutrality.
Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Chairwoman of BRG Group and Vice Chairwoman & CEO of NHSC, underscored that the North Hanoi Smart City will become the first carbon-neutral urban area in Vietnam, realizing a vision of a green, smart, modern, and world-class city.
She further highlighted that the project represents not only prosperity and sustainability in an era of national advancement but also an opportunity to elevate Hanoi and Vietnam’s global standing, making it an attractive destination for leading international investors.
“Through the adoption of renewable energy and eco-friendly technologies, the North Hanoi Smart City aims to become the first carbon-neutral urban area in Vietnam and the world,” Ms. Nga affirmed.
