The total retail sales of goods and services in Vietnam during the first five months of the year posted year-on-year growth of 12.6 per cent to over VND2.5 quadrillion ($107.2 billion), figures from the General Statistics Office (GSO) show.
The five-month result was the highest in the period since 2015 and represents a surge of 28.3 per cent over the same time of 2019 before Covid-19 broke out.
Revenue from the retail sales of goods was estimated at VND1.99 trillion ($84.1 million), a year-on-year increase of 10.7 per cent.
The group of food and foodstuffs rose 14.6 per cent, garments and textiles 11.1 per cent, means of transport 4.2 per cent, and home appliances 3.9 per cent.
Meanwhile, revenue from accommodation and food services reached VND268.3 trillion ($11.3 billion), surging 22.1 per cent over the same period last year.
