Total retail sales of consumer goods and services in May were estimated at VND519.8 trillion ($20.4 billion), up 9.5% year-on-year, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) has reported.
In the first five months of the year, total retail sales of consumer goods and services reached over VND2.58 quadrillion ($101.3 billion), a 8.7% rise against the same period last year.
The total retail sales of goods in the January-May period stood at over VND1.99 quadrillion ($81.3 billion), surging 7.4% year-on-year and accounting for 77.5% of the total sales of goods and services.
Localities posting increases in the retail sales of goods included northern Quang Ninh province, with 10.1%, northern Hai Phong city 9.5%, the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city 8.4%, Ho Chi Minh City 6.8%, and Hanoi 6.7%.
Revenue from accommodation and catering services increased by 15.1% year-on-year during the five-month period, while tourism and travel services by 45.1%.
