Nearly 6,000 retailers and household businesses in Hanoi will be required to roll out e-invoices generated from cash registers following a fresh survey by the city’s Department of Taxation.
Relevant businesses are operating in five sectors that are directly related to customers: restaurants and hotels, supermarkets, jewelry stores, pharmacies, and entertainment venues.
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and northern Hai Phong city are the three initial localities requiring that all retailers trial the issuing of e-invoices from cash registers using tax authorities’ data systems, following recent instructions from the Ministry of Finance.
The move is aimed at curbing revenue losses and improving compliance.
As of January 31, tax authorities nationwide had received and processed more than 2.8 billion e-invoices.
The introduction of e-invoices is a major breakthrough for the tax sector, contributing to transforming management and organization at tax authorities and reforming administrative procedures, cutting costs and increasing enterprise productivity.
