A large number of enterprises haven’t taken practical actions to engage in a more in-depth transformation of their business model towards using digital processes.
Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hoang Quang Phong told a workshop entitled “Digital transformation in businesses: New thinking and new action” on December 28 that businesses need to assess their level of digitization under scientific criteria and make the necessary changes to strategies and plans for development.
A digitization specialist from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), Mr. Nguyen Trong Duong, said understanding about the importance of digital transformation has improved but actual digitization practices remain modest.
Figures from the Small and Medium Enterprises Support Program for Digital Transformation (SMEdx) portal at MoIC indicate that there are over 600,000 enterprises accessing information about platforms posted on the portal, but only 70,000 have actually applied some of these platforms to digitize their business.
A year after the ministry introduced a set of indicators, referred to as “Digital Business Indicators”, or DBI, to assess readiness and the level of digital transformation at Vietnamese enterprises, only 500 had accessed and registered accounts on the portal, at www.dbi.gov.vn.
Even among these, many have not paid due attention to an assessment of the level of digital transformation.
