Ambassador of France to Vietnam H.E. Olivier Brochet said that during his tenure he will prioritize issues related to enhancing cooperation in climate change mitigation, maintaining biodiversity, and working towards sustainability.
During a recent meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Ambassador Brochet said France will support Vietnam in building legal standards and further utilizing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EUVFTA) to accelerate the economic relationship between the two countries.
He pledged to promote the export of the best products from France to Vietnam in areas of its strengths, such as aviation, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and food processing.
He said he hopes Minister Dien will attend the France-ASEAN Forum to be held in France in December as a honorable guest.
As of February 2023, France ranked third among European nations, after the Netherlands and the UK, and the 16th among 114 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 549 active projects worth $3.8 billion of total registered investment capital.
Vietnam has invested $3 million in nine projects in France.
In the context of global economic instabilities, bilateral trade between Vietnam and France reached some $3.5 billion in 2022, down 10.2 per cent year-on-year.
